Overnight at Matabungkay Beach Hotel
I was about to write about what I was reminiscing about Matabungkay beach during my childhood; but decided to reserve that on my feature of the resort as a whole. For now, allow me to objectively share with you my insights on an overnight stay at Matabungkay Beach Hotel inside Matabungkay Beach Resort.
Located in Lian, Batangas south of Luzon-Philippines, Matabungkay Beach Hotel offers an array of rooms that cater to a broad market; although I believe it’s more specific for families and corporate groups.
Hotel Features & Hotel Rates
All rooms feature air-conditioning, hot & cold shower, and access to the resort’s private beach, aside from two swimming pools (adults and kids).
Together with a group of 10 media friends for a familiarization tour, we got 5 Deluxe Rooms with twin beds.
For Php 3,700 net, our rooms included a television, mini-bar with refrigerator, and a spacious veranda. Although the television is arguably old, it was good to know it had cable connection. 🙂
The furniture and the walls had that provincial feel, but the room was clean and the beddings (including the soft pillows and sheets) were very comfortable and as good as most hotels in Metro Manila.
The closet was spacious and the private and enclosed spacious veranda facing the beach was something different for me.
Other type of rooms include the Family Room (Php 4,900) which is good for four, and the two-room Superior Family room (Php 6,200) that includes a lounge and dining area, among others. The finally the Deluxe Suite (Php 6,000) that offers a bigger space and bed.
They also have specially named suites with traditonally-inspired interiors such as the Matabungkay Suites, Nasugbu Suites, Calatagan Suites, and the exclusive Governor’s Suite.
Continued Renovation & Rooms for Improvement
Another good news is that the management is in a continuous process of renovating the whole resort and the beach hotel section by section. They just finished constructing a pool-side bar and some design lift at Cafe Caballero.
I truly hope the old CRT TVs in the rooms are next in line. The bathroom fixtures are also ripe for changing. 🙂
Beachside Villa
The Beachside Villa is the iconic beach-side lodging which accommodated celebrities in the 1980’s when it was still a beach club with exclusive membership.
The Beachside Villa has an octagonal shape housing 6 big rooms (villas) with a second floor and a common area at the center of the octagon that can be used for functions or meetings. The rooms even used to be named after celebrities like the “Nora Aunor Room” which then can only be occupied by the named celebrity herself.
Of course, ever since it was opened to the public and refurbished, the rooms were renamed to what we know today as the Beachside Villa. One bedroom with a queen sized bed is good for 6 guests (with dining and living room areas) and costs only Php 5,000 net. The cost also includes a complimentary breakfast for 6 persons and a bottle of wine/ bucket of beer. Extra persons costs P700.
We were not able to stay here however because it was fully-booked.
Conference Rooms
The hotel also houses a business center and modern conference rooms which can accommodate 50 – 300 guests.
Their Metro Manila office is at LPL Towers, 112 Legaspi St., Legaspo Village, Makati City.

In closing, I will leave you with a quote the public relations officer of Matabungkay Beach Hotel said, “the bill is part of the good news.” 🙂
